Here we go again...
Janet (who was SO kind to me in a previous blog entry) has another 100-word contest. This week, the words are:
lot
heroic
caring
alert
flammable
Please enjoy "The Saving Breath."
Gas hissed from the valve under the unmistakable sign: FLAMMABLE.
Sydney struck another match, only to watch it go out.
"Damn it! Why won't you light?"
She fell back, crying. So much had gone wrong lately, beginning
with that night. Not caring about the weather alert, she drove to
Cameron's. She remembered missing a curve in the road... Her car
sinking... Gasping for air... Cameron's hand... His heroic tug...
Watching him slip beneath the ice.
"I miss you, Cameron. I miss you a lot."
"I miss you, too. But it's not your time," he whispered,
blowing out yet another match.
Feel free to share your thoughts. And remember, you have until Sunday, 11/24 @ 9:00 a.m. to enter...
I found your blog via the fabulous Ms. Reid!
ReplyDeleteYour entry is one of the ones I really liked, and I wasn't sure how to communicate that to you without being weird. So I'm glad you posted!
Thank you. That's very kind of you to say.
DeleteWell done, I think you have the best entry.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate that.
DeleteOoh I like this. And one of the best things: I couldn't tell you were *forced* to use any of the words. They came so naturally to the story, and were knitted in very well. Awesome!
ReplyDeleteMy wife and I both agreed this was the benchmark of the FFC. well done.
ReplyDeleteThat was very kind of you to say so, both here and on Janet's blog.
