Castle: Like Father, Like Daughter

By Michael Seese

I thought this was "nice" episode of Castle. A "feel good" episode. I'm not sure I've ever felt that way. Sure, 99.9% of the time Castle and Beckett solve the crime which, technically, should make us feel good. But this one seemed different.

There was a whole lot of love flying around in "Like Father, Like Daughter." Castle's love for Alexis. (And her love for him, of course.) Frank Henson's ultimate show of love for his brother John. Beckett's love for Castle, as she explained to Lanie how much she wanted to be part of his family.

And, I suppose you could count the love of justice espoused by Alexis.

I really don't have a whole lot to say. Though what I will say probably would be considered SPOILERS!

What stands out most in my mind is the scene where Frank recounts what happened the night of the murder, and Maggie and Alexis beg him to come forward with that admission. It was dark, and tense, and sad. Just a great job all around.

And, kudos to me... When Beckett questioned John, and he stormed out, I looked at the clock and said, "There's 20 minutes left. It's too early to have him be the killer." And I do believe it was at that moment I did peg the killer. (But enough about me.)

A nice touch: Castle's screen saver displaying "You (I'm assuming the "you") ... Should ... Be ... Writing." I may have to get that. (OK, now enough about me.)

I didn't hear many lines which rated up there, though the best line was a hoot.

Beckett: "Castle, I am not getting married in space."
Castle: "You said you wanted it to be special."
Beckett: "Yes, because when I was a little girl, being stuck in a small tin can with one thousand tons of rocket fuel strapped to my ass was exactly what I had in mind."

I did record two great looks.

Alexis: "You know about the case. How?"
Castle (scratching his chin and contemplating): "Yeah, how?"

And Castle's wide-eyed puzzlement when Alexis asked, "Ready?"

What did you think of "Like Father, Like Daughter?" Share your thoughts.

  1. I LOVED Castle's screen saver! Especially when they showed it AFTER he was procrastinating!
