Well, it's November, which means many of my fellow authors are taking part in the insanity known as NaNoWriMo. I'm skipping that one, again. Though maybe someday...
For now, I'm sitting back and relaxing, having concluded my own month of insanity.
Last year, I pledged to submit something, somewhere, every day of October. I decided to try again this year.
Did I make it?
(Drum roll, please.)
Here are my tallies:
Literary agents 5
Short story anthologies 14
Short story contests 2
Flash fiction competitions 13
Online book reviewers 1
Online poetry 1
Poetry anthologies 5
Poetry contests 1
For a grand total of 43!
And I succeeded in submitting something each day, i.e., I didn't skip a day, then submit two the following to make up. To be completely honest, with a little planning and a lot of back catalog, it's not that hard.
Some have been rejected already. (Naturally.) Some have been accepted. And I won one of the flash fiction competitions. (I think I also earned an honorable mention or two.)
So what about you? Are you trying NaNoWriMo? Or, are you up for my brand of self-inflicted punishment?

Working to catch up on NaNoWriMo (I'm always behind coming off weekends), and I submitted something every day in October. Two of Janet Reid's competition, one magazine competition, and the rest were regular magazine subs. Currently still have 22 I'm waiting to hear back on from this month's subs (2 more from prior to October).
I was glad for the October Sanity, because it kept me off overthinking NaNoWriMo, and got more of my work out there than I'd had previously. Of course, it also pretty much exhausted my back catalog, so I need to get some more shorts written for next year ;)

DeleteI read a recent blog post that was not so much critical, as cautionary, with regard to NaNoWriMo. The author said that those of us taking part in NaNoWriMo have to be wary of slacking off in October (meaning NOT writing) just to make the word counts in November.
Clearly, you did NOT do that.
